Note on hardiness:
* Low temperature is not always the defining factor. Fall acclimatization and winter drainage count for a lot.
* Needs soil that is well-draining, especially for the winter. Avoid low-lying areas and 'wet feet'.
* Plants protected from winter winds can take more cold than exposed plants.
* Best to trim in spring as opposed to fall.
* Plants planted in spring or summer are more likely to overwinter successfully than fall-planted ones.
* Most small shrub varieties bloom well every year even if they die back like butterfly bush.
